I understand this philosophy but given the reality of so many teams in the G5 willing to play a cash game and the unwillingness of the P5 to play a real threat like USF I fear the choice is between away money games and empty home stadium or no away money games versus good opponents while continuing to have poor home attendance.

Well, our current philosophy may change over time. It is a difficult job trying to get a good home schedule. So, the emphasis right now is on getting 2-1 games with attractive opponents. RayJay is a large enough venue to host the fan base of bigger schools.

Bear in mind, that even some of the top schools want to improve their SOS to make a better case for the playoffs. So, if USF can become a consistent top 25-35 team, we might be attractive enough to make more 2-1 series.

1 - UF will NOT play at USF. The best they will do is a pay game @UF. That is something we are still considering. BOOK IT!

2 - FSU will NOT schedule USF, at least until Fisher leaves. Another couple games and we're in!

3 - Miami is open to continuing a home and home series with USF on an equal basis. That is a real possibility down the road.  Keep driving...

4 - USF is trying to get more 2-1 deals with blue blood teams, like we did with Texas. (For the extra game @Texas USF is getting $1 Million+.)  ??

This reminds me of the folks that will only play Lotto if there are a bunch of zeroes on the end.

Or as TheUpperHand and BayIslandBull said - Anybody, Anytime, Anywhere.

Easy?

Might want to ask ND or BYU about this.....

ND and BYU would fall under the at-large category, no different than right now.

The ACC is the only conference that's  better fit for USF than the AAC.

We ABSOLUTELY do not belong in the B12. It would be a money grab, and we would be sorry when the B12 is disbanded to go to 4 leagues.

I'd support a move to the ACC, but NOT to the B12.

Make it so, Apis!!

If only I could

Another thing to remember is that USF needs to play 7 home games each season.

It's very difficult to accomplish that, while also playing away pay games with no return.

So, while you may add an attractive opponent for an away pay game, you most likely would have to balance that out by adding an unattractive pay game at home to a second 1-AA team or pay considerably more for a lower end D1 team.

The 2018 and 2019 schedule seems be as good as can be expected with two P5 teams Home/away each year. However, I could see the possibility of Wisconsin buying out of our home game with them in 2019 and that would once again create a similar problem to what transpired this year.

We could conceivably buyout of our series with UMass, but that would be unseemly, considering they were willing to postpone our game with them to a later year, because of Irma. I don't think we want to get a reputation for doing that.

We need to add more games in subsequent years against "attractive" opponents, so I can well understand the strategy of trying to make more 2-1 deals, if possible with elite teams. If we can't, then we might be forced to bite the bullet and add some one and done pay games, but that won't be our first preference.

Didn't one of the P5 conferences state that they had to play a certain number of P5 (plus ND and BYU) OOC games?

I know that ND must play 5 AAC games each year as part of their agreement.

We have a home-home with BYU.

Don't  know about the rest.

I guess I wasn't clear.  I believe that one of the P5 conferences mandated that it's members must play OOC games against other P5 conferences, they then declared that ND and BYU counted as P5 games.

FYI, USF turned down $1.2 million @Clemson in 2021. That is how UConn ended up with the game.

USF just feels by doing that now it will hurt us in the long run with being able to schedule home and home series with other schools.

We need more attractive HOME games. That is why USF is trying very hard to make more 2-1 deals with BIG name football teams.

This.

I think it's dumb to have a blanket policy, as it seems is in place here.  You need to be willing to move a little when it comes to negotiations.  Having a policy and being so rigid so as not to move at all can hurt you as much as you may think it would help you.  Probably part of the reason this year is what it is.

I would have no problem with this.  I hope this is on the radar but my guess is it's probably not, seeing as we haven't had an attractive away pay game in six years.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
