G5 needs an auto bid to the playoffs.

In what other sport is it acceptable to create a completely imbalanced playing field which virtually prohibits half of the competitors from playing for a Championship?

Well, the G5 conferences all agreed to this situation.  The G5 could have said no to the CFP... but what was their alternative?

Tulane President Scott Cowen was fighting this situation in the early 2000s against the BCS, when the BCS changed to allow a G5 school in the Top 12 to get in automatically.

As @Apis Bull said... it would take that kind of effort again to change the CFP.

My guess is you will see an expansion to 8 games soon, then a G5 slot will be offered along with P5 auto-bids... with some stipulations... if an 8-4 Florida team beat a 12-0 Alabama team for the SEC Championship, they might not get the auto-bid, so it stands to reason that a G5 champion who finished 10-3 might not get in either.

Just my two cents.

We should offer 2 for 1's with UF, FSU & UM for these reasons:

These games that sell 50k-60k tickets are equivalent to 2-3 AAC home games for us.

Increased overall season average ticket sales per game.

Keeping it in state reduces travel costs.  Bus travel instead of charter jets.

Playing the Big 3 in the state can only elevate us.

Playing these teams forces USF fans that have grown up fans of these schools to pick an allegiance to one or the other.  Having a degree from a school should weigh much more than a childhood favorite.

UF won't play in Tampa.  The game against Michigan was their first non-conference game outside of Tallahassee or Miami in almost 30 years.  Plus we already have one more game in Gainesville under contract, but not scheduled because neither school really wants to put it on the books.

FSU and UM have both stated they don't want to play USF for a bit... FSU did have a 1-1 with us because they needed to fill holes in their schedule.  Don't expect another game with either before 2022 or beyond.

Yeah because we see what happens to UF when they venture out of their soft little OOC safe zone.

From what I have been told recently from a reliable source:

UF will NOT play at USF. The best they will do is a pay game @UF. That is something we are still considering.

FSU will NOT schedule USF, at least until Fisher leaves.

Miami is open to continuing a home and home series with USF on an equal basis. That is a real possibility down the road.

USF is trying to get more 2-1 deals with blue blood teams, like we did with Texas. (For the extra game @Texas USF is getting $1 Million+.)

USF is NOT interested in doing away paydays, (with the possible exception of UF). The reason for that is because once schools know they can pay us with no return, it will make it even more difficult to get home and home series with them.

IMO, we need to change this policy ASAP.  We could use the SOS bump in any year, as well as the extra cash.

Big paydays are good! SOS is good.

FYI, USF turned down $1.2 million @Clemson in 2021. That is how UConn ended up with the game.

USF just feels by doing that now it will hurt us in the long run with being able to schedule home and home series with other schools.

We need more attractive HOME games. That is why USF is trying very hard to make more 2-1 deals with BIG name football teams.

I understand this philosophy but given the reality of so many teams in the G5 willing to play a cash game and the unwillingness of the P5 to play a real threat like USF I fear the choice is between away money games and empty home stadium or no away money games versus good opponents while continuing to have poor home attendance.
