B12 agrees to remove pro-rata clause for $10 million TOTAL. That's $125,000 to each school per year for the remainder of the contract. Pathetic.

So basically, how many millions would it take you to accept getting shot in 9 years.

Sort of. But none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow. We saw the Big East implode, the AAC could easily get a worse contract at renewal time and end up getting lesser money and sliding down to the rest of the G5's level or implode itself if/when our cream gets poached. The B12 is certainly a dumpster fire with a limited shelf life but it is a dumpster fire that is in the club and the money would give us facilities and coaches for a better shot at transitioning when that day comes.

I've said before the only positive the B12 offered was money, but that was worth it. Plus some exposure too. Even if it did implode down the line and we went back to G5 we'd have the facilities to be a premier G5 program.

So basically, ESPN was behind the not expanding the whole time.   This shows it.

ESPN has reportedly given the Big 12 some additional cash in exchange for the removal of a potentially costly clause in the network’s contract with the league.

According to Sports Business Daily (article behind a paywall), ESPN paid the league an extra $10 million over the remaining eight years of its contract. In exchange for the payment, the Big 12 reportedly removed language in its contract with ESPN that would mandate the network pay the conference more if it expands to 12 or more teams.

ESPN and FOX, who have a deal worth $2.6 billion over 13 years to televise Big 12 games, are reportedly offering to pay off current conference members to keep the conference at its current roster of ten schools. The Big 12 TV deal includes a pro rata clause that stipulates each member school is due about $20 million annual payout, meaning the addition of two more teams would run them a total of $40 million. ESPN and FOX are reportedly willing to pay the league to erase that clause, as well.

As Sports Business Journal reported in August, the television networks have opposed expansion for this very reason—the Big 12 was said to have also been considering a four-team expansion move, which would have upped the yearly bill by $80 million, though various reports have indicated a two-team addition was being favored.

Can't wait to see the Big XII-II go up in flames and ISU, KSU, TCU,  etc. realize there is no escape
