I think they would want to be separated so they each would have a clearer path to the conference championship.

This is what I don't like about the expansions. What may be good for teams now ignores traditions based on geography. The Red River Rivalry has been played for over a hundred years. I get the potential money involved in a Texas/Oklahoma championship but a a lot of tradition goes out the window.

Agree, this makes Oklahoma and Texas fans happy if they have a chance of playing twice..

Generally, fans of the school that won the first time think having to play someone they already beat is ********.  Other side of the coin is obviously, the fans of the loser school are happy they get another shot, but both sides will not be happy.

I this only works if you have a permanent cross over game. For example the Big 12 would ideally want 9 conference games:

  • 6 conference games against in division opponents
  • 1 permanent conference game against an opponent from other division
  • 2 conference games rotating against opponents from other division (will play each opponent once every three years, hosting once every six)

I agree and think that if we were both to get an invite that is the route they go. Otherwise a FL inclusion doesn't help any of the teams in the north with recruiting and they are the teams we would be counting on to vote us in. Iowa State and WVU recruit FL the hardest out of any B12 teams currently; if they're pitching a recruit "you can play 1 game close to home over the course of your career" as opposed to "you get 2 games in FL during your career and a possible 3rd" which one would sway a recruit more?

I guess that was the Metro.

Or maybe we were going to be in the MAC, but never joined.

Or maybe I've been sniffing too much glue.

I would think us and UCF would be in different divisions to ensure more teams a game in FL on a yearly basis.

Why do we have to take UCF with us? How about FAU instead?

We replaced Florida State in the Metro starting in the 1991-92 basketball season and actually tied for second place in the regular season that year.

I think I recall us playing a lot of MAC teams during our years as a football independent.  Or maybe it just seemed like we played a lot of MAC teams those first few years.

But I really thought we were going to move to the MAC and then got the CUSA offer and went there instead.

Something tells me that Texas would want us in the other division

because of our identical hand signs...

If USF, UCF, UC and Houston are added to the Big XII, they will split East vs West.

Big XII East

USF, UCF, WVU, UC, Iowa St., Houston and TCU.

Big XII West

Texas, Texas Tech., Baylor, OU, OSU, KU and KSU.

This Divisional split allows the Big XII to retain their older rivalries and bushes the rising TCU, Houston and USF to the other division. It also gives Texas an easier path to the Conference Championship game by having them only play against OU and Baylor and not TCU as well.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
