Your logic is spot on.  Unfortunately that's not a consideration.  It's money and politics.  New B12 teams are Cincy, Houston, Memphis, UConn.

Replace Memphis and Uconn with USF and UCF

B12 expanding will cause others to expand and the B12 will be the first to be poached and will quickly become the AAC v 2.0

I can't believe all of this would occur without some type of Grant of Rights (GOR) clause for existing and new members.
