Well this is the first I have heard that all the political talk in Texas was for show only to cover politicians butts.  I had not heard that before.

It's been discussed ad nauseam on the realignment board on csnbbs. The point of politicking was brought up several times.

The sad part is I don't even like that board and yet, I've read it.

I’ve been told they’re doing that because they know privately Houston won’t get in because either the private Texas schools will block them or the non-Texas schools in the Big 12 don’t want another Texas school in. A lot of people think Cincinnati’s got a good shot because they serve for that bridge to West Virginia. I talk to other people who aren’t that high on Cincinnati.”
