Can anyone explain to me why USF is a long shot but, UCF isn't????? We beat them in almost every category. :angrymob:

Because writers have to write, but they don't have to do any research first.

ESPN is owned by Disney.  Disney is in Orlando.  Could be that UCF is on his "radar," whereas USF isn't?  Frustrating, but I'm hopeful that the decision makers at the BXII won't have this same bias, or if they do, it won't matter because they see the value in taking us both.

Bingo.  Nor do they have any insiders into the discussions among B12 presidents/decision makers.

Also, ESPN hates USF, clearly.

There will be lots of articles like these, based on pretty much nothing other than the author's perception of us.  Don't fret.  And don't get too high if someone is positive about our prospects.  Ride it like a wave.

That said, I think Cincy and BYU (if they can work something out) are probably the first two in.  If they go to four, a USF/UCF package deal is our best shot - I don't think either school gets in alone.

I think Cincy is in, but BYU has all sorts of issues.  Location is a big problem, but they bring lots of TV eyeballs nationally.  However, they don't necessarily bring lots of TV eyeballs in a particular market.  I think BYU helps the conference TV deal, but doesn't necessarily help a conference network if that is a goal.

Aside from that is not playing on Sunday, which may or may not be a dealbreaker.  And then BYU has to decide if they want to associate with other conference schools and sully their reputation.

In short, BYU always gets complicated.

McMurphy is still butthurt even though Leavitt has been gone for years.

USF: The Bulls picked an awfully bad time to have an academic fraud scandal. USF was already a long-shot candidate. This latest development could be a dagger to their candidacy.

What he meant to say is that "ESPN picked an awesome time to sink the dagger in the back of USF, hopefully to kill their chances." This is really the only reason they can find to label us a longshot.

"There's a sense among some that UCF has tremendous upside and would thrive playing in a major conference, especially with so much in-state high school talent and an up-and-coming coach in Scott Frost. "

I lol'd. He tried to deflect the homerism a little with the remark about them going 0-12, but who would have a "sense" that UCiF has a "tremendous" upside when they haven't really proven much of anything, and have a new coach trying to resuscitate its abysmal fall from grace. If anything, that shows they can't sustain success.

What a great line for UCiF: "Let us in, 'cause we have good high school talent in the area and a potentially good coach." Don't think B12 would pull in a school just to get their foot in the door in FL.

^ Agreed which is why my sense is that it's both Florida schools, or neither.

This is what kills me about the media. "Academic fraud scandal," pulled straight out of his analysis. It's an investigation, nothing has come from it yet! And USF was clearly doing its own internal homework with Oliver Antigua's absence on the road the past month.

Mine too. But if somehow we pulled another BE-type entry without them, I'd throw a party. If the other way were to happen, I'd call in sick for a week.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
