WVU AA just went on ESPN to say that the playoffs should be expanded to eight and this would end all of the conference additions for the Big 12. He says that he favors the conference stays at 10 unless two teams can come in to challenge for the championship on day one.

Just like WVU did...oh wait?

I know, right?  It ticks me off to hear crap like "immediate championship" what has Iowa State done in the last 10 years? WVU has been moderate to good at times but not in some time.  This guy can suck it.

Seems to me that if G5 teams had meaningful access to the playoff (say, highest ranked G5 team gets one automatic slot in a bracket of 8), that would disincentive pressure to expand in P5 conferences.  But, I think the P5 conferences like the exclusivity of being a P5, so even if we had a 8-team bracket, there will never be an auto-slot for a G5 team.  Just because.

I think they like the $25 million extra more than the G5 teams make

^ of course that's also a factor but we'll never see a TV payday if we can't meaningfully compete for a national title

Since 2000, this is what an "immediate conference challenger"  Iowa State has done.  USF would be a GREAT fit for these chumps.

Posting this is a fun and all, but conference realignment has nothing to do with existing members and their worthiness. Showing that USF has had a better 20 years than Vanderbilt doesn't mean we're getting into the SEC either.

Well how the hell else do you propose we get into the SEC?

Good.  This give us a little time to get on a roll and separate ourselves from the other candidates.
