But, that's my point. The Rays make a living on using numbers to combat eyes. Numbers say Fortin v. McClain isn't clear cut. Eyes say McClain is running away with it.

I'm thinking advanced metrics have a lot more value in baseball than in football, partly for the point you made about what string the qb's were facing. In baseball, stuff like that really doesn't come into play, does it?

That strengthens my point. Throw out who he was against and Fortin was a 41.2 to McClain's 3.6. Even though we know McClain was up against 2nd and 3rd teamers for most of the second half.

Good, let's throw out who they were playing against and we're back to Cade = 3 points ..... Timmy = 10 points.

The answer isn’t in the stats, aside from points. McClain has an intangible advantage. Seems to have more confidence and command. I think that gives him the edge.

McClain passes the eye test more so than Fortin.

It is an opinion and no amount of nonsense stats are changing my opinion. Argue with yourself otherwise.

CF offense = 3 pts

TM offense = 10 pts

I am trying to articulate another stat but I am not sure how to explain it...  Do we have time of possession / Number of drives?  It's not just points that help, but keeping the defense off the field by extending drives is vital for this team.

Agree with that, but you do realize that was a Chuck philosophy ..... but it also doesn't matter keeping them off the field if you're not scoring yourself. I think this is where you can manipulate numbers to back one's case no matter what side of the argument you're on. Although in this case, it's almost unanimous about starting Timmy.

I definitely need to have my head examined if I am somehow aligning with the Program Slayer Chuck.  I guess I felt this way even in the NC State game.  I would rather drive all the way down the field and have the freshman turn it over than going 3 and out with the spray and pray pocket passing.  Random thought - I felt the same way with Mike Ford back in the day.  The offense just moved better with him in.  Moving down the field is good.  I am not saying don't score fast if you can, which is what I think Chuck was staying.  I am just saying the 3 and outs are death.  We definitely need some time of possession at least until we can score fast again.

I wish they would commit to McClain and actually design some plays around his legs as well.  Throw some wrinkles in that keep the defense honest.

This will all come in time. QF knew 8 plays his first start at SMU.  Let's give him some room to grow and learn.
