The entire board does not agree with this.

The entire board probably agrees that McClain is the best future option. Currently, it is no where near an agreement that McClain gives us the best chance to win in 2021. This week, by QBR standards, Fortin was 18% below average. McClain was 92% below average. Just for point of reference:

There are six steps to building QBR:[4]

  • Each QB "action play" (passes, rushes, sacks, scrambles, or penalties attributable to the QB) is measured in terms of the expected points added (EPA)
  • Adjust for the difficulty of each play. EPA is adjusted based on the type and depth of a pass, and whether the QB was pressured.
  • If there is a completion, he only is credited for the typical number of yards after the catch (passer rating takes all yards into effect) based on the type and depth of the pass
  • There is a discount on garbage time, or a time where the score is out of reach near the end of the game.
  • Opponent adjustment: More credit is given with tougher defenses and vice versa.
  • QBR averages the adjusted EPA per play and transforms it to a 0 to 100 scale, with 50 being average.

What you typed is cool, but McClain just seems more confident. Fortin almost had 2 picks and isnt doing much. If not McClain I rather Marsh. Im no longer sold on Fortin. Im sure he is a nice guy though.

So, you'd say McClain seems like the best choice, but you have nothing to back that up since, statistically, there is no separation?

CF offense = 3 pts

TM offense = 10 pts

Does CF going against the starters and TM going against the 2nd/3rd/soon to be reshrited defense matter?

But, that's my point. The Rays make a living on using numbers to combat eyes. Numbers say Fortin v. McClain isn't clear cut. Eyes say McClain is running away with it.

You asked for statistical separation, you got it. A complete breakdown of each defensive player on the field, that includes what string they are, during each qb's stint could possibly sway me ...
