Serious question… how does UAB go from getting rid of their football program to building a $200M stadium in a few years?

They’re not building it and it’s not on campus …

We’d be playing Tulane and Tulsa in front of pitiful crowds in a debt ridden green stadium ……. If we had a crystal ball and saw what was coming maybe we should have tapped into that huge donor base that was built in those first ten years to build one, except a huge donor base was one thing that wasn’t built in that first decade.

Maybe, maybe not

Why wouldn't the stadium be green?  😄

What does it say?

There are pages to the story. One interesting note was the the original plan of the school in 1956 included a spot for an OCS at Fletcher and 30th.

Talk about a day late and a dollar short.

I could be totally wrong, but I thought the original President John S. Allen was against sports at USF and he wanted it to be an academic only school. If that was true, I don’t know how there would have been plans for it that early.

I guess I'll keep repeating this until it sinks in. They are not building a stadiumand it's not on their campus. They'll be in the same situation we are, except it looks like they'll have green seats ....... which is nice.

I just read an article about the feasibility study for your OCS from 2018:

1. Do you guys really pay $400K/game to rent the stadium? If so, you may be losing money with every home game.

2. The study mentions $10M extra revenue/year with an OCS, which seems low (UCF makes between $2M and $3M per home game) and a 50% increase in attendance. What was management thinking?

CR did say that was on the original plan of the school and maybe once Allen saw it, he nipped it in the bud ....

Saw an interesting thing up our way. Univ of W Fla (D2 champs) a young program has their football desires built into phases. I did run across a donation that they received so they could build a very nice field for practice however, for the first time Sat they are going to have a home game on campus. Point is, the local credit union Pen Air CU donated 1 million dollars for their field-called Pen Air field of course. Made me wonder if USF CU can come up with a Mil for football? We've been long distance members for many years. I've seen small USF items at alum assoc giveaways but wondered if they have ever been tapped for a big chunk of cash?? <Maybe you local guys know.> S. Ala got a big chunk from a large local bank for their stadium.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
