And in addition that 4 win in Taggart’s second season, we had a lot of luck.

Marlon Mack a freshman break out first game and yer we barely beat Western Carolina by 5

We beat UConn by 3

We beat Tulsa by 8

and SMU by 1

Do we have a Mack or a Q? In our roster for Scott’s second season?

So recruiting people is pure dumb luck? Maybe we should hire strong X and O’s coaches then but if CJS wants to follow the CWTs lead he may want to recruit players that are better than the ones he is hemorrhaging if he isn’t doing that (which would lead to more wins) then I’m not sure how he intends to show any improvement because it certainly doesn’t seem that it will be lead by his acumen (which is green at best).

Where did I say recruiting was pure luck? Yes you can recruit players that you think are going to be great and develop but as we all know sometimes those players we thought would be great from the recruiting class turned out to be bust and vice versa. There are a lot of players Scott is bringing this year that on paper can turn out to be as special as Mack and Q, will they? We don’t know that until they show up and play.

How do you know that the players Scott is bringing in are NOT better than those leaving? We won’t know that until they show up and play. Is not like those leaving have won a lot in past 2.5 years.
All I’m saying is let’s give Scott and his players time to show if they are the right ones to lead us. We aren’t going to resolve or agree Scott is a bust or not on this board with only a season, which was not even a full normal season, without Spring training.

When I see results from the next 2-3 years I can then look at results and tell you where I stand about Scott as a coach.

You have to completely empty the body of all bad blood and humors, before you can successfully replenish the humors.

Most teams are are considering the best programs at winning conferences and championships have are in the top recruiting classes averages over the last 5 . In the AAC the recruiting difference is not as big as the SEC,ACC, Big10, Pac12, and Big 12. If you look at USF versus Memphis/ Uconn classes the differences will not be as far apart as say Bama/Lsu versus  Arkansas/Tennessee.  I think coaching  and developing players has more to do with in the AAC then in the power 5. The coaches in the power 5 develop big time talent from less known recruits, but they also have more big talent to develop into stars.

Yes and I stand by it. Did we expected Mack to be as good as he turned out to be? An NFL starting RB? If you say you expected that when he was recruited then you are full of BS. No one can guarantee that, so yes while we can expect better results from better recruits nothing is guaranteed nor can we know the magnitude.

now can we put this BS argument to rest and wait and see what happens in the REAL world once we play real games?

Good Points!

And to be fair to CJS, he came into a situation in his first year where he had almost zero time to recruit, and then the Pandemic happened.  He had very limited time in the off season to work face to face with his new players, to get to know them, to develop them, to analyze their strengths and weaknesses.  He was set up for failure this first year.  Any brand new Coach in College Football faced the same problems.

The pandemic is not over, so he still is working under a lot of these same limitations.  Its like everything (not just our football team but the entire world) has hit the pause button.  I don't think we can get a good gauge on how good or bad his recruiting and player development is until 2022 when all of this insanity is finally over.  I am looking for some improvement this year from last.  And I think we are starting to see that in this last recruiting and Portal Transfer season....at least I hope.

We can shelf it but that does not mean that CWT just got lucky on his picks, he chose right and if CJS wants to be successful he better be choosing right as well.

All good facts. Also just look at the guys we signed and look at who we are recruiting against compared to previous signed players. We just got a kicker that had offers from Alabama, Clemson, NC, etc. We got Jimmy Horn Jr. when UGA was hot on him.....these types of things make me excited for the future. These are the recruiting battles we haven't seen in several seasons. This next season may not be wonderful to watch but I believe there will be quite an improvement.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
