I’ll take an NIT run, it would be nice to smile about USF Athletics in one of the major sports...

If not we still can brag about our preeminence, this is great trash talk at the local tavern, I am not even sure what it means but at least it is something, I think.

Actually it means absolutely nothing right now as the state of Florida cannot afford to give USF the extra $8 million a year that comes with being preeminent.

That wasn't your argument - you said CBG won with "less-than-stellar"

That wasn't an argument ... it was a fact

This will be an interesting year, I hope you eat crow but only time will tell.  If they are top 4 in the conference, NCAA berth or a deep run in the NIT, would you count this a success? Will this be enough for you to sing CBG’s praises?

It doesn't matter ... then it will be "we won in spite of CBG" .......

That wasn't the argument - the statement was the Gregory has been able to win with "less-than-stella"r talent. With the CBI championship season being the tentpole of his "winning" definition, he is essentially saying that team - including Yetna - is "less-than-stellar" from a talent perspective. The only thing @chapelbull illustrates is his lack of understanding of the sport.

To your point, I thought Durr developed nicely last season and started to show an effective back to the basket game from either block, but that was under utilized. He led the team in rebounding and blocks, was 4th in scoring and 3rd in field goal percentage and he was only slightly below the team average in free throw shooting. I'd say that he was better than average.

It's unfair for me to sound like I'm putting this on Durr, because it isn't his fault that he doesn't have help. But the fact is that if you took the best forward/center of every team from the AAC, Durr is near the bottom of the conference. To compound that, our second best forward, who ever that might be, is certainly worse than every other second best big man on other AAC teams. Agreed?

You disagree? Our SF is bad too. Gregory needs a bit more time to add talent.

At the risk of being accused of not demanding enough excellence, we haven't sniffed a "major" post season tournament in 8 years so just getting to one this year would be a step forward ...... with a relatively young team.

I have to agree that getting to the NCAAT or NIT would be a step forward, but a first round loss in the NIT would still feel like this team underachieved.

And so it begins.  If we get to the 2nd round and lose it will surely because of coaching.

Need to see how the season plays out before we assess blame or credit.

Are you sure?  We know how it ends.  You can skip the season and blame him now. I'm messin with you.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
