Maybe somehow, if he stays and ops out,  he can keep a year of eligibility? Was he getting a free release?

Dave's original wording was "Dawson leaves team" ...... I'm assuming opting out fits that without him leaving the school.

It seemed clear to me he is on the team, is opting out, and BG is in full support. Nothing about him leaving.

Hope that he does stay and comes back but in the short run, the bright side is it probably means more playing time for the young guards, especially Murphy.
