There are always injuries.  I think Shane will get called back up during the Season at some point.  This is also a way for them to keep guys working on a regular rotation, so that when they do get called back up, they are ready to go.  This happens a lot with the Rays, they use a ton of pitchers and more times than not, they are better than expected when they come up.  Looking forward to watching Shane this year, he will get his shot.

Topkin article in the Times pretty much spells out what their philosophy is on Mac, and Patino. Bottom line is they're concerned about the workload jump given the lack of actual game innings in 2020 and they think the veterans can cover the workload at the start of the season and just because you're not on the Opening Day roster doesn't mean you won't play a significant role down the line. Definitely still see McClanahan as a starter, and he does have a little history of injury, including TJ surgery while at USF so still being a little cautious. Definitely appear to still love his potential as a starter ........ but of course that could all be a conspiracy to cover up the contract thingy.

That stuff would be a little more believable if the hands down #1 prospect, Wander Franco,  in all of baseball wasnt sent down with them.

Wander Franco is 100% contract and free agency related
