Georgia transfer joined a crowded backfield of talented runners and hasn't had an opportunity to showcase his talents. In 2003, he split carries with starter 4JR Clenton Crossley and 4SR Vince Brewer has seen a lot of work, as well. Broke a knuckle during the season and labored through wearing a cast while playing. With the cast removed and Crossley out with a shoulder injury, he got that start at East Carolina and had his best performance of the year, with 13-117-0 in a victory. Only saw 6 carries, posting just 15 yards, for Gray squad in Blue-Gray All-Star classic. He isn't registering much on the radar of scouts now, but should display impressive speed, if he gets any individual workouts.

Gil Brandt evaluates Linebackers:

15. Maurice Jones, South Florida (6-03/4, 249)

Had a complete workout at the combine, running 4.71 and 4.72 in the 40-yard dash. Had a 361/2-inch vertical jump, 9-foot-10 long jump, 4.20 in the short shuttle, 7.16 in the three-cone drill and 26 strength lifts. Also worked out at his Pro Day. Played linebacker and named to all-state team in high school. Also played basketball. Redshirted in 1999 at South Florida and started one game in 2000. Has started the past three years at both strong- and weak-side linebacker. Has good athletic ability for the position. Plays with good effort. Question work habits until this year. Should be a good special-teams player.

He ran a faster 40 time (4.67) and did more reps (28 ) at his pro day, but Brandt didn't give those numbers.

I hate to say it but i don't think JR will go till the late 2nd possibly the 3rd round.  Seeing him work out and run and stuff made me think that he will atleast get drafted now especially if he moves to corner.  But I also think he would make a great safety in the league.   GO BULLS!!!
