Of course good pitching beats good hitting.  Beckwith was dominate all year long and ridiculously good in the CWS.  That's a little bit different story.  The three WSU pitchers that held us to 2 runs last week were not Beckwith like.  IF you get beat 2-1 by a guy throwing like that, then you tip your cap and say great job.

By the way, PS's era over his past 4 starts is pushing 7.  Hopefully, the long rest gets him going again

He had an ERA over 2 going into the CWS with 6 total starts under his belt. I'd like to hope our future first rounder has it in him to do even half of what Beckwith did on half the stage.

You went back to SM.  He's only allowed more than 1 ER in 4 outings this year.  This was about our hitting.  If we face Beckwith like performance then you are going to need great pitching as well, but if we face average performances, then I hope we can scratch more than 2 runs out

The only problem is, Shane does his thing for 5 innings, and then we're all out of aces when our bullpen takes over. Unlike Beckwith.

Because other teams can run their pitcher out there for a 6th inning even when he's dealing. We don't have that option.

He pitched 6 in 9 out of 13 innings.  Why are we still discussing this?  He is what he is and unless he finds some control and more guys putting the ball in play on 1st or 2nd pitches (for outs) it isn't going to change.  I'm not sure why it continues to come up at this point other than just griping to gripe.  It hasn't been an issue for us thus far

And PS' era was still almost 7 in his last 4 outings and he only went 7 once.  Why is that not a concern?

It will always be an issue if the bullpen has to pitch 1/3 of his starts. I used Beckwith as an example of someone who rode deep into games, thereby keeping the ball out of the hands of pitchers who weren't as good. Also, Beckwith was a 32nd round draft pick.
