Unless one of those NYD wins is a CFP semi final, we'll both still be in the same place ...

Of course you can that about any G5 team...none and I repeat none will EVER be in the playoff. But that does not mean that some teams can’t pass others. For example, we have surpassed teams in the MAC, Sun Belt, etc. I get your point about the big picture but there are plenty of teams out there and some have passed others along the way.

Like I said, different interpretations of "passing by", which is fine. Your interpretation, and apparently my down voters, is opinion, state of mind based. To me, it means getting to a definitive higher level in the college football hierarchy, like where we were at one time. I agree completely with your first sentence and that's why I consider all G5's at the same level.

I guess maybe we're talking about two different things when you say "things turn out differently". If we put up 65 points against Houston, we're still playing TTU in the Bulls Invitational Bowl ...

It's very hypothetical, but there's no way of knowing that at all.  That also would have lead to both teams being undefeated on Black Friday.  It surely would not have hurt in getting a more attractive game against a possible better opponent.

True, it is hypothetical, but I doubt we knock out one of the two AAC teams hosting bowls and those were the only two with a better opponent that an AAC team played in. Maybe there would have been other options outside of those bowls but I'm not aware of them ...

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
