Was also Oklahoma QB who beat Florida St for national championship in the ugle Defensive bowl win

Was also the Oklahoma OC who got fired by his alma mater for overseeing the worst offense in the history of the program. Also, the first and only coordinator ever fired by Stoops in his time at OU.

RANDY SHANNON FIRED AFTER HURRICANES LOSE TO USF

SHARE ON:

AP Sports Writer

CORAL GABLES — His voice nearly cracking, University of Miami Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt somberly laid out some of the many reasons why Randy Shannon was right for the Hurricanes.

The academic success. Improved recruiting classes. His decades as part of the Miami family.

Then there were 22 reasons that Hocutt couldn’t ignore: the games Miami lost under Shannon. In the end, those carried more weight than anything else.

A coach who left an indelible mark on Miami’s past will not be part of its future and the Hurricanes started the process of moving on Sunday, with former offensive line coach
Jeff Stoutland taking over on an interim basis and players gathering for a tearful meeting.

“Change is difficult and change is hard,” Hocutt said Sunday. “But change, sometimes, it’s necessary. And, this time, this change was necessary”

if I'm UCF I wouldn't be excited by either hire.

Shannon's defenses are tired.... He was a good coach at one point but his time has passed

Agreed. Not worried about Shannon being there aside from the recruiting uptick they will see from it.

UCF is basically betting the formula that made Frost a success will work two times in a row.

Don't think it does. They are hoping this guy will be some sort of QB whisperer since he coached Bradford during his heisman season and did well with the QB at Mizzou. I'm not buying it.

Frost coached for Chip Kelly for like 6 years and went to title games before moving to ucf. This guy got fired by Stoops and coached one year at a 7-5 SEC east team.

That #10 offense ranking also looks flukey when you consider that Mizzou ended up going on a 6 game win streak to end the season and took advantage of dysfunction at UF and Tennessee to win two games during the stretch that they normally would have lost.

Also, not sure if Shannon will be willing to take a back seat to this guy. You could argue that Shannon is a larger name than Heupal - might see some egos clashing here...

If you actually look at the Mizzou schedule, it is hard to be excited about the 7 wins. Look at their wins versus loses.

Wins: UF, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, UConn, Idaho, Missouri State

Losses: Auburn, UGA, Kentucky, Purdue, South Carolina

Other than Alex Collins Shannons recruiting has been a bit overrated for a few years.  It could be UF and Arkansas but he wasn't near as scary on the recruiting trail as he was in years past.

It will be be interesting to see what Heupel brings as he's unfamiliar with the FL recruiting landscape and his offenses have had mixed results.   I have a feeling this is a feast or famine hire for UCF. Either this turns out to be a brilliant move or this hire fails miserably.  I don't see any middle ground here.....
