Well, we KNOW that UCF is playing two of those teams.

In our case, we HOPE to be playing two of those teams.

That's true...getting ahead of myself LOL

FWIW, in the Massey Ranking Composite with 84 computer systems currently reporting:

#16 UCF

#19 SDSU

# 23 USF

#26 Navy

https://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm

Houston also at #40. If they can win their next few games (including SMU and Memphis) they will be sniffing the top 25 when we play.

Navy could possibly be ranked in at least one of the polls this week, if they beat AF. They certainly will be ranked if they win @Memphis next week

UCF currently has 17 AP voters who have not voted for them.

http://collegepolltracker.com/football/team/ucf-knights/2017

So, UCF figures to pick up some of those votes with a convincing win @Cincy this week and should move up. They then play ECU at home and get some more votes.

In that case, a ranked UCF will play a ranked Navy and the winner might jump over both USF and SDSU in at least one of the polls.

All we can do during that time frame is to keep winning convincingly against Cincy and @Tulane and hope that some teams in front of us lose, in order to keep ahead of the other G5 ranked teams.

I love the underdog keep doubting us and we just keep grinding until we vanquish all.  16 ranked USF vs 10 ranked UCF fine by me.

It's not really that difficult to project, if the "favorite" keeps winning.

All the time remembering that the current polls aren't the ones we need to worry about. Last year, week 9, the first week of the CFP poll, here's how the G5's fared in the 3 polls:

WMU (8-0)

  • AP #17
  • Coaches #17
  • CFP #23

Boise (7-1)

  • AP #24
  • Coaches #24
  • CFP #24

It's going to be interesting as heck to see how the CFP handles the G5's in a month,

Exactly.

The final CFB was  released on Dec 4 :

USF was left out of the CFB, despite being RANKED in BOTH the AP & Coaches Poll.

Navy was NOT ranked in BOTH the AP &  Coaches Poll.

Temple was ranked by both the AP & Coaches Poll, but USF was ranked two spots better by the Coaches.

WMU

AP #12

Coaches #14

CFB #15,

Temple

AP #23

Coaches #24

CFB #24

Navy

AP NR

Coaches NR

CFB #25.

USF

AP #25

Coaches #22

CFB NR

So, there really is no way of knowing what the CFB may do.

Considering they left USF out last year, despite being in both the AP and Coaches Poll, could be a cause of concern to us.

We know they will rank the conference champion the best.

Since Temple beat us and beat Navy in the championship it makes perefct sense what they did.

However, we beat Navy and a good case can be made that they should have been excluded and USF added by CFB, especially since they weren't ranked in the other polls and we were.

Of course, CFB does not release a poll after the bowl games.

Final AP & Coaches poll Jan 10:

WMU

AP #15

Coaches #18

Temple

AP NR

Coaches NR

Navy

AP NR

Coaches NR

USF

AP #19

Coaches #19

 SDSU

AP #25

Coaches   #25

I doubt they are getting the alleged eyeballs the region's numbers have but I also bet they are happy to have an eternal doormat for the teams that matter to destroy. So the bean counters can point to the region's population and subscribers and fool themselves while the football people enjoy the easy in conference P5 win.

Other than a few years under Schiano no one in NJ cared a lick about Rutgers football.  I grew up about 25 miles south of RU and don't think I ever watched one of their games on TV.  I'd watch Princeton before them. And I had no hate for them at the time.

I could have seen them entering the Top 25 had they beaten Texas Tech 2 weeks ago. It'll be hard for the pollsters to bring them in w/ 1 loss and wins against a slightly better SMU team, a struggling Tulsa teams, and a Memphis team that just got smacked by UCF. With winning those two games I see them in the low to mid 30s by the time they come to Tampa.
