I'll put my $10 down but only if Strong is my personal trainer.

But does he have a responsibility to negotiate the highest salary he can? I think he does, but that's hard to quantify or prove. Maybe Texas sent a chaperone along and said, "Hey Charlie, you make whatever deal you see fit, but if our guy isn't satisfied with the deal, we may have to take this to court and hold our payments to you until a judge decides if you really fulfilled your obligation to us."

Possible, don't think it would happen though. Texas players already threatened to quit if Strong was fired. If you go after him now, you are setting up your new coach to fail to because the players are going to feel like "their" coach is getting a very raw deal.

I actually would strongly disagree that it's straight forward. Open to interpretation in my opinion. Was not clearly conveyed and would be a point that is muddying up the conversations.

$11 million?  I think those guys would do just about anything to avoid paying that out.

Let's be honest, the intent of the parties when they signed the UT deal was probably that he wouldn't try to circumvent a reimbursement to UT by taking a backloaded employment deal... as much as I hate to say it.

They definitely have an angle.  Especially if he tries taking a back-loaded deal.  Texas would argue he did not make a "reasonable" attempt to obtain other employment.

Intent of the contract would be a point of litigation if UT brings it...

$11M to them is like $2M to us. How hard did we fight Holtz's buyout? Heath's? Sometimes the bad publicity is worth just letting it go.
