Good Lord another thread about the defense.

No Tom Allen was not gone for the WKU Bowl Game; he was in the process of dusting the resume off for an Auburn interview, though. What people forget is that Allen left in January or February. Way too late to hire someone else to fill the DC position from the outside.

The 4-2-5 has worked well against the spread. The weak part of this scheme is the run defense. The scheme has changed over the course of games vs run based opponents but the execution wasn't there against Temple. 

We lost some solid seniors at the ends and I the secondary. We have a brand new play caller who stays in the booth (although last week he came to the sideline and Jancek was in the booth.) These are all mitigating factors.

Back in the Bucs heyday, they ran a 4-3, 2-deep as their base defense and they were phenomenal at it.  They had the personnel to run it and I'm sure they could have handled a spread offense without any problem.

This is all coaching...the talent drop off isn't that significant from last year...also, players that are still here have had significant drops in production....the coach isn't putting the player in the right positions...he doesn't have the stinger crash the line enough, he consistently has the corners and safeties waaaay to far back...the list goes on and on...that being said...I truly believe that Woodie doesn't believe in the 4-2-5...it's almost like he's trying to play a 4-3 in this  formation...if can make just a few adjustments this d would be far better...
