I'm trying to DUMP the entire project and have a 64 team tourney, but the ncaa said that they only want basketball players to miss that much class time  ::)

I'm not really sure how a playoff system would result in missing classes anyway.  The games would be played on Saturdays in December & January...

Do all these other I-A schools have a lot of Saturday classes??  I know USF doesn't for its undergrad programs.

It's such a ridiculous argument.

The problem with a playoff system is that no one has come up with a plan that can bring in the kind of $$ that the bowls do... and one that allows all the bowl host cities to get in on the action....

Here is how I would do it if someone granted me the power. (Which will never happen anyway)...

First, realize that there are 28 bowl games that will be held in 23 metropolitan areas (Orlando, San Diego & New Orleans each have 2, Phoenix/Tempe & Dallas/Ft. Worth each have 2)... so that means we need to find a way to have these 23 cities host at least one round of the playoffs:

Tier I (4 cities):

Miami, Pasadena, Phoenix/Tempe, & New Orleans

Tier II (8 cities):

Atlanta, Tampa, Jacksonville, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Orlando, Memphis, San Antonio, & San Diego

Tier III (11 cities):

Honolulu, Boise, Detroit, Shreveport, Mobile, El Paso, Nashville, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Houston, & Charlotte

So, here is how I would handle it...

All 11 I-A conference champions would get an automatic bid.  A committee would select the remaining 13 teams and seed them. Teams 1 - 8 would get first round byes.

The first round would have the following pairings:

9-17, 10-18, 11-19, 12-20, 13-21, 14-22, 15-23, 16-24

The 8 Round one games, and the play in game, would be held in Tier III Cities.

The 8 Round two games would be held in 5 Tier II Cities and 3 Tier III Cities.

The 4 quarter final games would be held in 3 Tier II Cities and 1 Tier 1 City.

The 2 semi-final games & the Championship would be held in Tier I Cities.

It's all over in 4 weeks!!

that is a great plan  and would generate more money and buzz with the casual fan. the diehards will go wherever their team is playing. and gambling would skyrocket like march madness!

The problem with that plan is the every week travel required of each winning team's fans.  Tough to sell tickets that way.  I personally like the plus one idea.  Take the top 4 teams and let them play each other in one of the 4 BCS bowls and then have one extra game.  If more teams are involved the only way it would work with full stadiums would be to have the higher seeded team host until the final.  The problem here would be the near elimination of the bowl system.  That is why I say keep the bowls the way they are and just add one extra game.

Dennis Dodd of CBS Sportsline (I think it was him) had a good line on this topic. It was something like "The BCS rejected the help of the American Football Association because it was affiliated with the NFL. Lord knows the BCS can't be seen associating with a lousy organization like the NFL."

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
