Our defensive secondary played poorly against Wku's receivers.  Was that because it was a bowl game or had Allen already checked out mentally? Fsu and Houston will have more talent than Wku.  Gotta figure that out.

8-4, Bowl Game win in St. Pete bringing us to 9-4 on the year.  I have zero faith in the new D-coordinator and CWT needs to show that run wasn't a fluke.

I feel like we are still young, much hyped, untested.  Someone mentioned in another thread the advantage last season of being predicted #129 or whatever, no one really has to game plan for you.  Remember the uncertainty when QF would pass ... and the delight when he connected?  I don't think some of those plays come as easily this season.

I think the expectations have far exceeded this team's combined ability, playing and coaching experience.  Maybe I have just been ruined over the years watching a program with potential be held to such high expectations that it crumbles from within.  I don't want it to happen to this squad, but success was new to them last season, we'll see how they handle it this season.

I worry about the same things, the OL, the DEs and what our defense overall will play like.  This is the season to prove the last was not a fluke.  But now with a target on your back not in your scope.

Take it a game at a time, with the goal of getting better every day.  Show that week to week, game to game improvement we didn't see with Holtz.  Have to work hard.  In turn, I won't be looking for 9 or 10 wins, but a team that continues to grow and wins the games they are supposed to win.  I guess I am in that take it one game at a time camp.

What a reasonable post.  I would get ready to duck.

On paper , this is probably the best team we have ever fielded.  Not only the talent, but we do have not only athletic depth, a good deal of experience in many positions with guys that may come in off the bench.  I have said it before, while it always important to have a good offensive line, I think we can move the ball consistently even if they are just average.  This is not the same offense as we saw Willie's first two years.  As long as he continues to spread the field and let the playmakers make plays the ball will move down the field.  If he resorts to just trying to line up and overpower the other team straight ahead we won't move the ball.

I also think this may be one of the best defenses ever.  Again, great depth on D with a lot of experience.

I was never really concerned about the depth of the kickoffs last because almost every kickoff was near the sideline and we did a good job of pinning the returners into a corner.

My only concerns are on the coaching side of things. I believe the success of the team this year will be how well Woodie can make good decisions and adjustments on defense when needed. the other area of concern for me (maybe not a concern, but will be a determining factor in the true success of our team) will be the situational decisions.  A lot of our wins last year were blow outs.  Still to be answered is can Taggart make the right play calls or personnel calls in a tight game down the stretch?  In a close game that can mean the difference in a win or loss.

I like the coaching staff, I like the athletes on the team, I am looking for one of our best years ever.

I disagree about our kicking.  We ranked last in the conf on FG at 15 for 23 and last in the conf on touchbacks with 7 for 81.

I'd like to get the conference title. I feel confident in all AAC games.

Wouldnt be surprised by 8-4 though

I don't know how we're going to do this year because every year, every game is a unique entity (unless we're talking USFMBB) but I'm not really buying into this "we snuck up on everybody last year" mentality. Pretty sure that Temple, Cincy and UCF game planned for us and we still laid an average of 51 points on them, because we were just that much better than they were on gameday. Again not saying we will definitely do that again this year but just not buying into the downplaying of what happened the 2nd half of last year.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
