2 things to note:

Jose never coached a game under the previous head coach, he was a brand new assistant (along with Harry Elifson) at USF. The scandal occurred before they got here. 

If my memory is correct, Jose took over (just as an interim head coach) took late in the cycle to recruit for his first year. He simply had to coach the team the last coach had built.

While the parallels aren't entirely similar, I personally feel like men's basketball had to basically rebuild from the ground floor. You had a ton of guys who were either A. Very loyal to Stan heath and didn't want to play for a new coach at USF, or B. not loyal to this program and would have gotten out anyway, and Heath's departure gave them the excuse they wanted to leave. 

That said, I still like Antigua's recruiting. If he doesn't pan out next year, there should at least be a solid base of players for the next coach to get on track. We offer a lot of things at USF-a essentially brand new arena, a great basketball practice center, and a good basketball conference to play in. If the players gel, then this team should be winning 20 games within 2 years with a new head coach. But let's hope Antigua works out. Holtz's contract comes off the books after next year and Heath after 2018. Those will be a huge aid to our liquidity.

We also gave CJF more than 3 seasons to get it together. Two of the first three seasons were abysmal and the 3rd was mediocre. I know I'm probably asking too much from TBP but lets get through the third season before we start writing coaches off as failed experiments.

We're now at the point where two injury depleted rosters that no coach could overcome counts as failure. Time to move on.
