Is USF a "commuter school" - and how does that term affect you?

So, technically USF has 76% of its students living off campus.  Technically, USF is a commuter school.  Interestingly, UF has almost exactly the same percentage.  So really it is subjective, but not inaccurate to represent USF or UF as commuter.

I think the main reasons are on the surface. Our name and not being looked at as one of the 2 state school (UF, FSU), not being a private school (UTampa, Miami), the athletic side (not having an OCS and not being consistent in fball/bball) and not having traditional bars and restaurants surrounding the campus. I've heard this last argument a lot from USF students and FSU/UF alumni. It's going to take a long time to change the average persons perspective about USF.

We've come a long way.  Just in the time I was there from 09-14 they opened JP Hall, and built two new apartment complexes right across the street.

Jesus Christ. Who cares.

Well, based on the posts in this thread, several people do.

God I love the ignore feature.

To be fair, I think THIS TIME, ba was having a little fun ...

And I know many of you are going, "Jesus Christ! Who cares?" ... well, I care a little. There are a lot of things I care more about... but Saturday can't get here fast enough.

I swear if there a thread about "Nothing" people would comment on it.

Of course it would be taken down by the Lords quickly.

It's a thread about "NOTHING"

US News looks at "student based" housing within a certain mileage from campus.

Exactly. There would 6 pages and countless arguments on this board regarding a thread about nothing.

I completely disagree ... for no reason.

Correct, but have you ever heard someone call the University of Florida "it's a commuter school" ??

No, because what people mean by "commuter" school is that people only go their for class... that the students don't have all of the "atmosphere" of the "traditional" schools... that the classes don't have the same academic rigor as other schools...

USF has moved beyond that.

UCF, however, has not... there is a reason why they have 60,000 students -- they take everyone.  USF decided it didn't want volume of students, it wanted to focus on better students... hence the reason we have an average incoming GPA of 4.08 in this year's freshman class.
