Did CWT implement the spread in the spring game or was it the old offense?

It's been a few months and I can't recall if the changes were made during the spring game.

Does anybody know?

I believe that was supposed to be the new offense in which I recall CWT being disappointed that we didn't look as sped up as he wanted to show.

"Spread" and "Read-option" are not the same thing.

1 - The offense was spread out more... very few two-TE and two RB sets... mostly 3 WR sets... which is new.

2 - They were more up tempo, not as many huddles... although it took CWP longer to send in plays (which I think is his achilles heel).

3 - The QB was 2-hand-touch, so there were a lot of plays the ended as "sacks" that would not have been sacks in a game... especially for Flowers... so don't be too disappointed.

4 - There were only a handful of practices under that new scheme... with all summer to learn it... plus the training 'camp' before the season, the offense will be a lot more up tempo... (Assuming CWT learns how to call plays faster).

This will cause us to lose ball games.

It's pretty new for him, too, but he's also got all summer to learn. I think I recall him including himself in the disappointment for the lack of play-calling speed. Hopefully by fall it will be more second-nature for all the coaches & players, but we WILL have some hiccups...bet on it.

It floors me that Taggart insists on retaining play-calling duties.

He can't get out of his own way.

And he has no one else but himself to blame if it fails.

Not really ... Word is that Harlan forced him to go to the spread and probably told him he had to call the plays, too.
