TAMPA, MARCH 26, 2015 – Head coach Orlando Antigua announced the signing of highly-recruited guard Shawn Smith to the USF men’s basketball team on Thursday.

“Shawn is a physical guard who can play both the point and shooting guard positions,†Antigua said. “He will give us a quick and athletic body with a lot of experience.â€

Smith, a Jacksonville native, averaged 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game last season as a sophomore for Lee College, an NJCAA school located in Baytown, Texas. Prior to Lee College, Smith averaged 5.7 points per game as a freshman for Texas A&M during the 2013-14 season. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-4, 205-pound guard was named a four-star prospect by ESPN out of Faith Baptist Christian School in nearby Brandon, Fla. Smith was named the 29th-ranked point guard by Rivals.com and the 38th-ranked shooting guard nationally by ESPN.

Smith joins Tulio Da Silva, Jahmal McMurray and Luis Santos as signees for the 2015-16 season. The Bulls will also have sophomore guard Roddy Peters, a five-star recruit out of high school, eligible next season after redshirting this season following his transfer from Maryland.
