I know this would never happen, but it would be so much better.

 

The four division thing isn't working.  This year, an, at best, 8-8 (4-2) team will make it with the possibility of an 11-5 team not making it.

 

One problem, is less than half the games are inter-divisional.

 

If i were the NFL, I'd add 4 teams and go back the three divisions per conference.  That would give each team 10 divisional games.  Have the 3 division winners and 3 wild cards make the playoffs

 

Add two teams to LA, one in San Antonio, and one in Las Vegas.

 

AFC West - LA (1), Oakland, San Diego, Denver, San Antonio, Kansas City

AFC Central - Houston, Baltimore, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh

AFC East - Tennessee, NY Jets, Buffalo, Miami, New England, Jacksonville

 

NFC West - LA (2), Seattle,San Francisco, Arizona, St. Louis, Las Vegas

NFC Central - Minnesota, Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit, Tampa Bay, New Orleans

NFC East - Washington, Philadelphia, NY Giants, Dallas, Atlanta, Carolina

Better to put Tennessee in the east and Baltimore in the Central.

 

Can't break up the Bengals / Steelers / Browns / Ravens

 

Same with Dallas - they need to stay in the East, so put St. Louis back in the West, and put Tampa back in the Central where they started

I don't like this trend:

 

'72 14-0 won the SB

 

'82 7-2 lost the SB

 

'92 11-5 lost in AFC Championship

 

'02 9-7 missed the playoffs

 

'12 7-9 missed the playoffs
