Good. Was worried the LB coach from Ohio St was going to get it. His unfamiliarity with an attacking defense was scary.

What kind of defense does Ole Miss run?

A better one than ours.

Boom!

LOL....

This is a great hire. I like it so much that I'm almost upset because now I might get excited about next season.

Wow the hires under Harland have been very impressive. USF have opened the checkbooks to get good coaching it seems.

Wow. Could be very interesting

Allen has been on Ole Miss' staff the last three seasons, coaching linebackers and also working with the No. 9 Rebels' special teams. He's been known as a quality and hard-working recruiter for coach Hugh Freeze, and Allen has coached two All-SEC players (Denzel Nkemdiche and Serderius Bryant) at linebacker.

Ole Miss finished the year No. 1 in scoring defense (13.8 points per game) and was among the nation's best in yards per play allowed and turnovers created.

Allen is inheriting a rebuilding project at South Florida. The Bulls gave up 5.69 yards per play in 2014, eighth in the American Athletic Conference, and 27 points per game during a 4-8 season.

South Florida coach Willie Taggart fired defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan and defensive backs coach Ron Cooper after the season. The Bulls return six starters on defense.

Allen was once a high school coach in the state of Florida, part of a career that was spent at the high school and lower college levels until he joined Freeze's staff at Lambuth in 2008. Freeze hired Allen when the former became head coach at Arkansas State in 2011, and then brought Allen to Oxford.

This is the first coaching staff change for Ole Miss since co-defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach Wesley McGriff left for the New Orleans Saints after the 2012 season. Freeze is expected to speak later today at a formal acceptable of an invitation to the Peach Bowl, and could give a timeline then for replacing Allen.

It's been a few years since he coached at Armwood but maybe he can help sway some of the players to join us.

"...Allen served as the head football coach at Ben Davis (Indianapolis) High School from 2004-06 and was also the head coach at Temple Heights (Tampa) High School from 1992-94. In between his time at Temple Heights and his elevation to head coach at Ben Davis, Allen was defensive coordinator and linebacker coach at Armwood (Sefner, Fla.) High School from 1995-96 and held the same positions at Marion (Ind.) High School in 1997 and at Ben Davis from 1998-2003. "
