Broward, expansion has much less to do with on the field performance than you think (see Maryland as the example).

In the past, yes, this is correct.

Times change.  I think it's entirely possible that on-field performance may have MORE to do with expansion now than it did.  Don't forget that Ohio State is in the playoff, not just because the B12 didn't have a true champion, but arguably also because Ohio State played a tougher opponent in their CCG on championship weekend and beat them soundly.

SOS means more now than it did before.  Yes, I think that the B12 will be looking at TV markets and potential, but they're also going to be wanting a team that is competitive on the field.  There's no point in adding a team that is not going to boost the overall strength and reputation of the conference.

Basically, what I'm saying is that the B12 is going to hold out until they are either involuntarily forced to add teams by the other conferences or the selection committee, or until they find the perfect match in terms of revenue potential and strength of performance.

Sounds good...

Until UCF gets and invite (with another partner) and we don't...

The Big12 has shown before (*cough WV) that they would do something like that

We can't be concerned with adding ourselves as a compliment to UCF.

Reeks of desperation

We need to improve our product (winning, more fans, and a strong athletic department) -- and provide the justification to be a P5 school on our own. Maybe we can get the interest of a better conference (like the ACC). UCONN still stands in front of us, when it comes to realignment.

I think OSU passing TCU and Baylor had less to do with the lack of a BIG XII championship game and more to do withOhio State completely and utterly dominating ranked Wisconsin in a 59-0 shut out win in the Big 10 championship game with their 3rd string QB. Snubbing them out after that performance would have just been blatant disrespect

actually it would be more beneficial for the powers that be to add a dormat.

Ohio state didn't leapfrog TCU because they played a tougher schedule. they leapfrogged them because they played a 13th game against a guaranteed quality opponent. according to sagarin's TCU had a tougher schedule. they went 3-1 against top 30. OSU only played 2 and went 2-0.

if TCU had played us instead of baylor and then played in Championship game against #6 Baylor and won than they would have been in the playoffs.

it's easier for a team in a 12 team conference to avoid playing another top team in that conference because they don't play everybody. in the big 12 you can't dodge anybody. OhioState didn't play Nebraska. Alabama didn't play Georgia.

it was the fact that they played 13 games and the last was against a top 10 team. the only way they played that game was because they play a championship game. it was not on their schedule. if the big 12 played a championship game than it would likely be between two top 10 opponents. of course if TOSU had lost or had not looked as good than the championship game would not have mattered to TCU but i think it hurt them not to have played a quality opponent as a 13th game that last weekend.

Good points.  If they were to go to a divisional format, not everyone would play everyone.  Didn't think about that.
