Cristobal is making $475,000 at Alabama to be the O line coach. Eddie Gran gets $305,000 to be the OC at Cincinnati. What would we have to pay to get someone to board the Titanic for a year?

Two or three-year contract, as OC and Asst HC?

What happens if Taggart is fired? The new HC will pick his own coordinators. Then we're stuck with the bill for 1-2 more years for fired assistants.

What happens if the offense blows up and CWT gets this team to 9-3 next year?

I would be interested to know just how much input Harlan has, or had, on the firings. And how much, if any he'll have on the hirings.

Would he straight up say that these three areas of the team were the weakest, and changes needed to be made?

I'm not sure how these changes put us in a better position than we were on friday

IMO it was a mistake to fire the coaches we just did.

Whose mistake, though? I'm still not sure whether this was CWT's last gasp at keeping his job, or Harlan telling him to make big changes.
Doesn't matter whose mistake it is. If CWT made the decision, or Harlan told him to do it, if it fails, CWT is done, not Harlan.
Sure it matters. It clues us in

Not trying to be a jerk, but I'm going to stop you right there. Harlan doesn't care about cluing us in, he cares about results. Harlan's not going to get any blame or credit until the next coach is hired, so whoever is making the decisions, it's going to be Taggart who either survives or gets killed by it.

Harlan's a big picture guy, he's not going to get into the nuts and bolts of who CWT hires or what changes need to be made. He's telling CWT he wants the football team fixed, and CWT needs to do what he thinks he needs to do to make it happen.

He's basically letting the leash out a little longer, but my guess is that we're at the end of the leash. Whatever CWT decides to do needs to work, or he won't work at USF any longer.

Again, I'm not disagreeing with you that it's CWT's responsibility. But, unlike you, I'd still like to know who made the decision to fire the OC, DC, and DB coach. As noted by others, it's unusual to fire both the OC and DC in the same offseason. It smacks of desperation. And if Harlan (big picture guy that he is) thinks that firing or pressuring CWT to fire all of these folks is going to solve the problem when the problem is actually CWT, he's a fool. Better to leave them in place and clean house next year. Will CWT be able to bring anyone in that can actually make a difference under these conditions?

I agree it would be better to leave them both in place.  Wulff was only here for a year, but I suspect some personality conflicts were in play between him and CWT, so that to me would be the biggest reason for his dismissal.

Understandable that you would want to know who made the call for the reasons you state.  To me, if Harlan's the big picture guy, I'm thinking CWT made the call to let them go.  And it does absolutely smack of desperation.  No doubt about it.

As someone said, the common denominator (CWT) is still in place.  If it doesn't work this year, CWT is a lock to be fired, imo.  Gonna be tough to replace those assistants with any of quality.

Also, will there be people afraid to come and turn down the job as this may be CWT's last year unless he shows improvement?

I'm afraid anyone of note that has been paying the slightest bit of attention, or does any research at all on our teams the past couple years, will stay away.

IMO it was a mistake to fire the coaches we just did.

I think it was a mistake as well.    Coaching turnover hurts the team.   Not sure that Wulff ever really had full control of the offense.    When you fire someone it only makes sense if the next hire is better.   I think we will have a difficult time getting a big time OC or DC.

Who in the world is going to accept a position for DC or OC with us? Uproot their family and come to Tampa knowing Taggart is on the hot seat and that if this season is anything less than a bowl game Taggart is fired and so are the rest of the assistants. Someone who either isn't qualified, or someone who has been sitting at home the last few years??

You would come if you thought you'd be the next HC, just like I hired into my company, thinking my performance would enable me to surpass the person who hired me.

Yes, I would. Being realistic though, what are the chances 1) that exact scenario happens, 2) the person Harlan is already eyeing is willing to take a massive pay cut for at least this upcoming season unless he's eyeing someone sitting at home right now)?

We have now gone the route of established coaches at the coordinator position and failed. It's time to use this opportunity to hire unproven guys with fresh ideas that would redefine the offensive and defensive philosophies based on who we are, Taggart is out of time trying to make this the team he wants it to be. Do something# unconventional, hopefully catch some opponents off guard next year even if it's got some gimmicks to log some victories. Time to put it all on the table.

So basically any coach with a decent resume that is headed here will want guaranteed money. You can't blame them, if WE can see how dire the situation is, I'm sure they are well aware of it.

Is this flashbacks of Chris Cosh? Or dreams of Chad Morris?

I wonder when we will begin to hear names being thrown around...sounds like my Kinnan and Weiner ideas might be more real than I thought.

As per Josh Newberg:
@joshnewberg247: Biggest hurdle for USF & Taggart hiring a DC/OC will be job security & money. Expect it to be an up & comer that likely hasn't been a DC/OC
