I mentioned an 8-team playoff before with each P5 team getting in and the highest ranked G5 team provided they are in the top 25 or Notre Dame if they are in the top 10.  This week would look like this:

 

8. K-State at 1. Miss State

7. Notre Dame at 2. FSU

6. Michigan St at 3. Auburn

5. Oregon at 4. Alabama

K-State is undefeated in conference play, they'd get the nod over TCU if the season ended today

so, you're reserving one spot for ND+G5 where ND is T10 but G5 is only T25

 

ND comes in at 11 and Marshall at 23, you really pick Marshall over ND?

 

 

Maybe you have to drop ND's restriction to T25?

Maybe, I'm sure it has some kinks in it.  The reasoning is that the G5 is an actual conference champion, whereas Notre Dame isn't and because of their brand recognition, they could schedule mostly creampuffs and get a top 25 ranking.

Or, better yet, exclude any team without a conference affiliation...

There are 10-12 teams better than Marshall, screaming about being left out
