Berns is just a typical over priced steakhouse Tampa BS status place. El Puerto in ybor is way better for the money. La Teresita is a staple next to the stadium. Friday is ropa vieja day, Saturday is roast pork. Great Cuban food for less than $10. Tacoson blows taco bus out of the water, but not really close to the stadium.

 

I disagree about Bern's.  IMO the food is great, the atmosphere is great, and the dessert room (and desserts) are phenomenal.  Just my two cents.

Tacoson is for people who want to seem like they know a local place that's better than the popular one. There's a reason Taco Bus is one of the top 10 food trucks in the country, as voted on by customers.

I have been to taco bus once, and have no plans to ever return.

I have no idea which is better but I think you'd have to try each more than once to get an informed opinion ...

El Puerto is a good Argentine-style steak house, but whenever my wife is in the mood for a fantastic churasco steak with legit chimichurri, Renzo's is the spot. Coog, there's a Renzo's Carollwood and one off Kennedy, which is closer to the stadium.

I'll play my Mexican friends card too and say they prefer the Taco Bus, though they say neither would really stack up as authentic. So we'll have to agree to disagree.

I've never had a meal there I wasnt 100% happy with. The desert room is lights out.

Welcome to Tampa.

 

If you are looking for amazing Latin food, check out La Teresita. It's a mile away from the stadium and the food is cheap and so darn delicious. Every time I return to Tampa, this is a go-to spot for me.

 

Since you're still a student, you're probably looking for a good bar scene for the nights. I recommend Soho - South Howard. Start off at MacDinton's and then check out the other spots that are walking distance. There's also YBOR which is very historic but is fun at nights.

First time I went to Bern's was about 40 years ago. My elder brother was in town to celebrate something or other and took the family there.

 

When he ordered a $200 bottle of wine, I nearly shat myself - that was more than my damned CAR cost, LOL.

 

Bern's is aweome.
