Which is why we are in the bottom 25 in record, Winston is a long way from being a Rhodes scholar and he has yet to lose a game. Until they start playing acedmics bowls at the half that count towards the scoreboards I'll take illiterate criminals that win games every day of the week and twice on Saturday.

Thanks but I'm pretty sure it's only a tie for the record. I can't be the only one that thinks no one at Alabama or FSU is staying up at nite worrying about graduation rates. Even UNC which is a flagship for academia was making up fake courses for their athletes, the game is measured by who has the most points at the end of the game and how many times you do that it comparison to other teams. Graduation rates really aren't a factor in that in less you are grasping at straws for reasons to celebrate. CJL had APR's that embarrassed some but no one talked about those around the water cooler, yet everyone knows we are at the bottom of the football food chain and they don't even laugh at us any more they look down on us with pity.

We're all frustrated with the results on the field over the last few years, but these are still student athletes, at least for the time being.  Apis posts something positive about the academic side, and your immediate reaction is to trash it.  You apparently believe that college athletics are more important than college academics, and that's fine, but most of these kids work their butts off, both on the field and in the classroom.  I happen to think these students deserve some respect for their academic accomplishments, and not some "fan" wishing he could trade them in for "illiterate criminals."

Student comes first. It is after all, a freaken university.

They are supposed to be but stopped being treated as such long ago in FBS. I spent last weekend watching FCS and DII football, it was refreshing.

Is this a joke. The end of college sports is closer then it ever has been, it will be for the best. This country has created a bunch of greedy ass spoiled ass kids that think they deserve everything in the world. USF athletes get paid 60,000 in free education. That is plenty enough.

 

You want to get paid? Fine here is your pay check but you don't get a scholarship. Pay for your schooling as that is what the normal student does who works a full time job. Oh and if you fail a class you're out no questions asked.

puc86 nailed this. Give me a team with an APR of 890 that wins 10 games over a team of 980 that wins 1.

 

This is a lot larger of a reason for our downfall than a lot of people care to admit. We're not at the point that we can attract many student athletes that can light it up in the classroom and on the field. I'll take the latter until the smart+athletic ones do want to join us, I don't think it works the other way around. For every Nigel Harris there's a JPP. Both good, but would we let JPP in nowadays?
