So far, 8 weeks into the season, none of USF's FBS opponents are bowl eligible.Western Carolina 35 - Mercer 21 > More than 400 yards and a +2 turnover margin gave the Catamounts the win. > Record: 5-2 (3-0 Southern) > Next up: vs Citadel (Sat @ 2:00)Maryland 38 - Iowa 31 > Starting QB Brown was hit hard, but he came back into the game - and the Terps won their Homecoming game. > Record: 5-2 (2-1 Big Ten) > Next up: @ Wisconsin (Sat @ Noon) Louisville 30 - North Carolina State 18 > Brissett was 18/32 for 223 with a 2 TDs and an INT. But the Wolfpack just didn't have enough to win. > Record: 4-4 (0-4 ACC) > Next up: vs Boston College (Sat @ 3:30)Connecticut - BYE > Record: 1-5 (0-3 AAC) > Next up: @ East Carolina (Thu @ 7:00pm) Wisconsin - BYE > Record: 4-2 (1-1 Big Ten) > Next up: vs Maryland (Sat @ Noon)East Carolina - BYE > Record: 5-1 (2-0 AAC) > Next up: vs Connecticut (Thu @ 7:00pm) Cincinnati 41 - Southern Methodist 3 > The Bearcats needed a recovery game, and the Mustangs were happy to help with 4 turnovers. > Record: 3-3 (1-1 AAC) > Next up: @ SMU (Sat @ 3:30) Houston 31 - Temple 10 > Ward threw two TDs in less than a mintue as the Cougars nabbed FOUR turnovers. Ward also went 29/33 - 88% completion percentage. > Record: 4-3 (2-1 AAC) > Next up: vs Temple (Fri @ 7:00pm) Cincinnati 41 - Southern Methodist 3 > The Mustangs returned to their normal level of ineptitude. > Record: 0-6 (0-2 AAC) > Next up: vs Memphis (Sat @ 12:00) Memphis - BYE > Record: 3-3 (1-1 AAC) > Next up: @ SMU (Sat @ 12:00)Central Florida 20 - Tulane 13 > The Knights won an ugly game (4 turnovers, 4-14 on 3rd down) by hanging on to beat Tulane. > Record: 4-2 (2-0 AAC) > Next up: vs Temple (Sat @ 5:00pm) ---------------------- My own personal "who cares" AAC rankings for week #8: 1. East Carolina (5-1, 2-0) * 2. Memphis (3-3, 1-1) * 3. Temple (4-2, 2-1) 4. Cincinnati (3-3, 1-1) * 5. Central Florida (4-2, 2-0) * 6. South Florida (3-4, 2-1) * 7. Houston (4-3, 2-1)* 8. Tulsa (1-6, 1-2) 9. Tulane (2-5, 1-2) 10. Connecticut (1-5, 0-3) 11. Southern Methodist (0-6, 0-2) If the USF team that played the first half against Wisconsin or ECU, or the 2nd half today would play a full 60 minutes, USF would be at least #4 on my list. I think Cincy, UCF, USF, and Houston are all playing about the same ... and Temple might be lumped in there. The * are teams I expect will make a bowl game (as of today, this could change). They lost today but all they need are 2 more wins between UCF, ECU, Penn State, Memphis, Cincy, and Tulane. Tulane will be a win for sure. They will win atleast one of those other five games. Otherwise that's pretty much a spot on assessment of the AAC. The bottom 4 teams are awful. The middle 5 are all about the same. ECU is clearly #1. Memphis is clearly #2. I don't think a bowl game for the Bulls is really that unrealistic either. Cincy is just a better version of Tulsa. Awful defense, solid offense. We will score points on them, we just need to force a turnover or two and get a couple of stops. SMU is a disaster. Houston is average. Memphis is very solid. UCF offensively right now may actually be worse then USF. Winning 3 of those isn't that crazy.

Western Carolina is not as bad as everyone thought. 3-0 in their conference is good even though they are on a lower level. USF should have beat Maryland. That is the game that got a way. We had too many injuries in that game. I would like to believe if we had Andre Davis in that game, USF would have beat Maryland. In the past now, but it tells you that USF is playing much better this season as we would have been blown out last season.
