By Joey Johnston | Tribune Staff Published: September 17, 2014 | Updated: September 18, 2014 at 06:33 AM TAMPA — The other day, University of South Florida football coach Willie Taggart spoke with his mentor, Jack Harbaugh, who was the Western Kentucky University coach when Taggart played quarterback there. When Taggart became WKU coach, he often confided in Harbaugh during rough times in the early going, when the Hilltoppers’ losing streak reached 20 games and his second season began 0-4. “Coach Harbaugh was saying, ‘Seems like we had these (same) conversations four years ago at Western,’ †Taggart said as he detailed the things that have gone wrong in USF’s 1-2 start. “He knows and I know. You stick to the plan and your vision. I’ve been here before, and I know what it’s like. There are so many similarities. “You can’t waver or it won’t work. You can’t waver because people are (impatient).’’ Rest of article

We can all agree this is painful and not the place USF wants to be. But at least we have a leader who is at least stepping up and saying "I'm taking responsibility, please follow me, I have a vision".

It may ultimately be his undoing, though.

It's like the guy who wants to keep banging that hot girl even though his wife knows and will get a $10M settlement check when the divorce finalizes. Jim Harbough's players have ALWAYS played mean and aggressive but in control, i.e. Character and Cruelty, with a heavy dose of the later. Taggart's players are playing soft. Where's the mean streak? We’re ticked off, too. We want to win, too. Most folks don’t understand how we’re trying to rebuild. All they understand and know is what we’ve done in the past, and they want to get back there as soon as possible. But this isn’t a quick-fix thing. You’ve got to fix it the right way and rebuild it the right way. I think we’re doing that.’’ I don't know if this guy even gets it. How about all some of us fans want is for our team to look competent. How about seeing a team that is actually watchable on Saturdays? I'm sure there are some people want this turned around in a year but I think the majority just want a respectable showing and are fine with a 4 or 5 win season to start as an improvement and go from there. I don't know if he knows how bad it is.
