What happened to the great (Bench) offense from the spring game?

Anyone remember the spring game back in March or April at Corbett?  I remember being very encouraged about this offense after seeing Bench light it up with the number one receivers (including Dunkley, who was still a WR back then).  I was thinking we were golden because back in the years when we actually HAD offensive production (under Grothe and BJ), the spring game was always dominated by the defense, and the offensive effort always looked really bad with passes in the dirt, etc.  I used to come away from the spring game with a feeling of:  oh, man we have lots of work to do on offense.  But by game time, the offense would always come together.  This year, I thought the spring game offense under Bench looked great, so I had higher hopes going in to 2014 for the offense.

After witnessing that, I was surprised to hear that White was named the starter.  People on the board reminded us that we are not at practice every day, so we don't see what is going on.  Also, its true that Bench had all the number 1 receivers in the spring game.

I may just be babbling senseless drivel, and being a division 1 coach is above my pay grade, but I wonder if there are things going on in practice that just don't resemble a game day scenario.  I wonder if the defense is preparing the offense for what they are going to see on game day.  Are they stacking the box and blitzing on every down like they do in the games?  Another thing is that the QB doesn't really get hit in practice (not suggesting they do that), but I'm just saying that the QB that is shining in practice may look good because he has no fear of actually getting demolished by a huge D lineman or linebacker.  So in the game, he plays differently because he knows he's going to get leveled.

Anyway, the offense in the spring game looked promising.  Wondering why we can't come close to that on game day against a real opponent.

Reading this, I tried to recall the last time I'd heard CWT reference the film room. I remember Bres doing it...any players?

Spring game is a scrimmage. QBs know they are not live. Little blitzing and base coverages.

Throw in the lack of defensive consistency and it's hard to get an accurate reading based on one scrimmage.

I think he's getting the Matt Floyd treatment. Banished for life. Or until he transfers somewhere else.

There will never be any consistency at the QB position If Taggart throws three QB's in the three games. At this point, through 15 games, it seems like he's just throwing poop against the wall to see what sticks.

Also applicable to out QB play.

How do you expect any of the five that he has used in 15 games to get any consistency? Pick one and stick with that one. If it is White, then it is white. Live and die with him. If it's Bench, let him get all of the reps with the 1's all week in practice and let him play the entire game. And if Flowers was the answer on Saturday, he should have been in there from game one. Or at least from the 2nd play of game two.

There is zero consensus as to what the eff is going on over there. Nobody has any idea of what to do, or where to go from here.

There is consistency now. Mike White is the starter. That was the case the last 5 games last year. He has started all 3 games this year. CWT said he'll be the starter next week. Consistency is not be default a good thing.

Another difference is that David Reaves was calling the plays for Bench's team during the scrimmage. It was a completely different mindset than what we are seeing today. Bench was able to spread the defense by throwing all over the field rather than bubble screen after bubble screen to the sidelines and negative yardage passes. Mike White's team did the same style of play calling that we are seeing now and that netted them a whopping 3 points during the spring game.

In the three games this year, pretty much all of the feces is on the ground.  It's dry, hard, and not leaving any stains on the wall whatsoever.  It is definitely pretty stinky still, though.

This explains a lot. I was wondering why it looked so different.
