Will coach Taggart’s team approach work for USF?

TAMPA – The team, the team, the team.

 

It was the focus of Bo Schembechler’s speech to his Michigan football squad in 1983.

 

“No man is more important than the team,” he said. “No coach is more important than the team.”

 

More than 30 years later, Willie Taggart has tried to incorporate that idea with his South Florida squad.

 

Instead of names on the back of jerseys, he wanted to put ‘The Team’ on them.

 

Players liked it. Coaches liked it. The NCAA did not.

 

It’s considered a violation of the uniform code.

 

Taggart’s response? “It’s the rules,” he said.

 

The Bulls’ second-year coach, however, has gotten his point across.

 

Now, there will be no names on the jerseys as rival Central Florida or USC or Notre Dame have done for most of their history.

 

His goal of promoting an atmosphere of camaraderie and togetherness in the locker room appears...

Both HCs have worked under Jim Harbaugh. Both take the names off.

And man, seems to be the weekend of the underdog. I'm a little nervous about this game.
