Three weeks ago, head coach Jim Mora said one of the key battles for UCLA this spring would be at backup quarterback.

Most onlookers would have picked redshirt freshman Asiantii Woulard as a heavy favorite then, a strong-armed if raw prospect who looked like a perfect successor for star Brett Hundley. The race hasn’t been so clear.

Woulard is listed at 6-foot-3 and 208 pounds, and might even be a bit heavier. But since popping up as a surprise recruiting coup last year, his game has hit a wall. Mora said the quarterback’s troubles have been mostly mental.

In fairness to our highly intelligent board members, I think most of us foresaw difficulty for him at UCLA. The mental aspect could be either expected or unexpected, I guess.

On a side note, Jeff badet I read injured his eye with a tennis ball while doing some sort drills to improve hand eye coordination
