I'll bite...only cuz I do agree with Bullwinkle that we shouldn't clutter the new commit's page (we don't want him to flip after seeing something inane on "his" thread afterall).

I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that Gonzalez was committed to FSU and "flipped" to USF.  My view of flipped is it's common vernacular in recruiting, but I guess formally it'd be de-committing, then commiting to another school, near contemporaneously.  So, flipping is more efficient writing.  Could be "switching", but that's boring.

In the case when someone decommits, then later commits, I guess it's just a commitment.  Few know when the "switch" happens (or who caused it; school or player), so truthfully, it's not that important what we call it.

I have always taken it to mean changed your verbal pledge. Obviously, it can't be flipping when it's a written pledge, since that's a transfer. I don't consider it a flip if a kid has never committed anywhere. That's just securing a commitment.

It's pretty cut and dry, black and white imo. I agree with you here.

I wouldn't have expected anything less after you requested and were granted your stage to crash and burn on.

IMO,

A flip is when a player decommits from school A and commits to school B as a result of school B's efforts to recruit him and where school A still wanted the player.

It's not a flip if the coach at school A is fired and the player decommits to think things over. Not a flip if school A cools on a player and encouraging him to look elsewhere.
