So much for Oleary turning UCF into a destination school. He steps down and it's back to being a stepping stone.

The number of coaches who are willing to stay until retirement are few and getting farther between

Very interesting. The timing is very strange. Why not coach through the season, or step down now? Kind of stupid to consider stepping down AFTER the first game.

In the end, I'll bet he coaches the full year and announces his retirement immediately following the regular season or bowl game. I'm sure he would love the discussion to be about him and the fabulous job he's done at UCF before riding off into the sunset.

Or he sees a crap season coming and wants to get out before it happens. Similar to Urban Meyer "retiring" after Tim Tebow left.

Actually, that's an excellent point you make. Curiouser and curiouser ...

I don't know that he'll be in a condition to return from Ireland anyway.  After saturating himself in Irish whiskey and ales in the home country, he'll probably bleed to death from his hemorrhagic nose.
