As a former university band director, I feel it's safe to say that the general SOP is that the fight song and alma mater are pretty much off limits unless the President says change them, which they rarely do. Sometimes schools will update their arrangements, or change the meter or groove, but that's about as far as it goes. Of course I'm referring to schools with storied traditions that care about their history and are understandably cautious to fiddle with the almighty "tradition". I happen to like our fight song and alma mater and can sing them without forgetting a word. So I'm pretty biased, I guess. But I don't think it makes a lot of sense to change it either...it's a part of more USF tradition than just football.

Go back up to the link I posted and see all the schools with new versions. I didn't count but off hand I'd say it seems over 50% of D1 schools seemed to have old and new versions as well as up to a dozen other songs associated with that school including some old and new versions of some of those songs.

If you're asking for a "refreshed" version, we've done that too...did a new arrangement and changed the meter when we moved to the Big East. So I guess technically we have an older and newer version too. But...it's a fight song, what do you want? They're all corny!

P.S.--It's entertaining to substitute words for the last verse of UCiF's FS, "Tonight our Knights will..." Whine? Die? Cry? Try it this Thanksgiving!
