Ruben Guerrero, a 6-foot-10 big man out of Sunrise Christian, is currently on an official visit to South Florida, per a source.

The bottomline is we need a backup center badly. If he can rebound and half defend he will be useful. Omogbehin needs to be moved on as he cannot play at this level and is simply taking up a scholarship from someone that can possibly contribute.

Not sure if he has an offer yet though, maybe he gets one before he leaves if Coach O like what they see.

Was that source Hem??

Where in the heck did this guy come from? What's the connection ... looked at a few sites and didn't see how he could be linked to either of the COA's or RS.

He's a native of Spain, so I suspect our coach would know about potential Hispanic talent.

BTW, I only looked at the box score of one game he played and he went 9 for 9 from the FT line!

This is presumably about him in the news recently. Unfortunately, I don't read Spanish.

Another player Indiana has checked in on recently is Ruben Guerrero, a 6-10 center who plays at Sunrise Christian in Wichita, Kan. Guerrero is familiar with Sebastian Saiz, a 6-8 freshman at Ole Miss, who also left Spain to attend at Sunrise Christian.

"Sebastian helped us recruit him here," said Kyle Lindsted, the head coach at Sunrise Christian. "We've had some kids from Spain so we have some contacts. It's always a bit of a culture shock and takes a while to get used to the physicality of the game here, but he's a very bright kid and he gets it in a lot of ways."

Lindsted said a lot of high-major programs were interested in Guerrero when he first arrived, then backed off a bit when it appeared he was still finding his way physically. But Guerrero has improved steadily throughout the season and has gained about 20 pounds since his arrival six months ago.

"His recruitment is really crazy right now," Lindsted said. "He played really well in an ESPNU game and that's when schools like Indiana started showing more interest. There's interest from mid-major schools all the way to the high-major elite schools. Big men in this class at this stage are really hard to find. We're going to let the smoke clear a little bit and then try to start mapping out some visits."

Lindsted called Guerrero an "athletic guy and very smart" but added that he has work to do offensively.

"He's not bad offensively, but he needs to get better on the block," he said. "I'd say right now he's a face-up (power forward). He has to get better on the block and continue to get stronger."

Coach Oliver Antigua said USF would search high and low for talent, in the US and around the globe. The video I saw of him showed that he can finish well at the rim with the gorilla two handed slam he had. He seems to be smart and can and will pass out the double team or to a teammate for a better shot. He also appears to have good technique blocking shots and help defense. That's what I noticed in the short video I watched. There were two other players on that team, one signed with Arizona and the other signed with Michigan St. That particular team seems like one of those that gets good talent from all over to transfer in and play there, definitely a program to keep an eye on for the future.

I remember watching Sunrise Christian play against Arlington Country Day (UF signee Brandone Francis' team) and thinking that after the pg who is going to MSU he was the best player in the court. I was very impressed with him. I don't remember who ACD had down low but for a perennial bball power house in florida they could not stop him.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
