Great pickup and hopefully Luis Montero is next. This class could be big.

4 star ESPN recruit, 6th best player in NYC, and 27th best power forward in the country. Great commit!

Great pickup! He will play at prep powerhouse Sunrise Christian, where we landed Guerrero. Nice if we can get a pipeline to some other elite players going there.

Luis Santos has committed to USF, St. Raymond’s coach Jorge Lopez told SNY.tv.

The 6-foot-8, 245 pound power forward from St. Raymond’s (N.Y.) chose the Bulls over St. John’s, Villanova, Seton Hall, Rutgers and Fordham.

Santos played for USF head coach Orlando Antigua and his brother Oliver, an assistant at USF, for the Dominican Republic team in 2011 at the FIBA Americas.

Santos was named First Team All-Bronx last season, while averaging 12.9 points a game in his junior year.

Santos is USF’s first commitment in the class of 2015. He will finish out his high school basketball career at Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) for his senior season.

Luis Santos, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound center, committed to Orlando Antigua and his staff at USF on Wednesday.

Orlando Antigua and South Florida reeled in their first 2015 recruit on Tuesday.

Luis Santos, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound center, committed to USF over interest from St. John’s, Villanova, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Fordham. Jorge Lopez, of Bronx (N.Y.) St. Raymond, informed Scout.com of the decision.

“I took him on an unofficial visit back in May and he fell in love with the school, the university and the coaching staff,†Lopez told Scout.com. “They went out of their way to make him feel at home. They did a good job of presenting the program in a positive way. It just felt like a natural fit.â€

Santos played with the Dominican Republic U16 National Team in the FIBA Americas in 2011. USF assistant Oliver Antigua coached that team, while Orlando was an assistant for their main team at the time.

“I think that was probably the greatest deciding factor here,†Lopez said. “The fact that he has a relationship with those guys and he looks up to Orlando with Orlando being a assistant for the Dominican Republic National team and now the head coach. Of course Oliver coaching him in 2011, he just feels very comfortable with them.â€

“Orlando didn’t coach him, but he always admired him,†Lopez said. “His body of work at Kentucky, he respects everything he’s done. He feels he can get him ready for college.â€

In the end, USF’s consistent pursuit of Santos won out.

“They were at all of his games,†Lopez said. “He had other schools recruiting but they were recruiting him the hardest.

The physical post presence will finish out his high school career at Wichita (Kans.) Sunrise Christian Academy.

Santos was named First Team All-Bronx last season, while averaging 18 points and 12 rebounds a game .
