By Kevin Burke Special to USF News TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 5, 2013) — A 4.0 grade point average and 1200 SAT score are impressive for any new high school graduate, but at USF they are the norm for the newly arrived Class of 2017. Data released following the first full week of the new academic year indicate that this fall’s incoming freshman class at USF is the best qualified, scholastically, in the university’s history, boasting a highest-ever average GPA of 4.0 (up from 3.94 last year) and a mean SAT score of 1200. It is the third straight first-year class to enter the university with an average SAT of 1200 or above. GPA inflation in high school has gotten totally out of control. Also, I would rather see the median GPA and SAT score than the average.

I don't think so Hillsborough senior earns 9.3079 GPA http://tbo.com/news/hillsborough-senior-earns--gpa-shattering-record-409927 These GPA's are basically crap/inflated. When I was in high school, there were Honors and AP classes. My AP classes (much less honor classes) did not add to my GPA... it just gave me college credit while in high school. Now, honors classes gives you a boost to your GPA, while AP gives you an even higher one. IB, which didn't exist while I was in HS, gives you almost double credit! I think all of this is BS.
