From Scott's blog:

Former USF quarterback Matt Grothe will participate in an invitation-only workout for the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger Cats on Saturday.

Former USF receiver Amarri Jackson, cut from the Bucs last summer, will also work out for the Tiger Cats.

Hamilton head coach Marcel Bellefeuille and general manager Bob O’Billovich will attend the workout session at Lakeland Christian School. Tiger Cats southeast regional scout Danny McManus, who spent 17 seasons in the CFL after a stellar career at Florida State, said Grothe’s skill-set matches the CFL’s style of play.

“It’s perfect for him,’’ McManus said Friday. “He moves around and makes plays. The biggest thing you want to see is his arm strength, because our field is a little bit bigger. We’ll test him on some throws to see where that is.’’

McManus started scouting Grothe heavily when Grothe was a junior and continued to monitor him after Grothe suffered a season-ending knee injury in USF’s third game last season. Grothe has maintained an intense rehab schedule since the knee injury and is expected to be able to go full-strength on Saturday.

Hamilton owns the CFL negotiating rights to Grothe. McManus said 45 to 50 players have been invited to the workout, and that Bellefeuille and O’Billovich have watched film of all the players.

“They want to see where he [Grothe] is at in his rehab and throwing the football,’’ McManus said. “The eyeball test is important for a player coming off an injury.’’

The Tiger Cats currently have four quarterbacks on the roster, including former Boston College player Quinton Porter and Illinois State’s Kevin Glenn.

UPDATE:

Was at the workout, have to leave early - but will be back. WANT to see the throwing !

Matt just ran his 1st 40 ... didn't hear the time, his knee definately looks 100% !

There are 3 other QB's at the workout/tryout, including Quincy Carter of UGA Bulldogs & Dallas Cowboy fame.

USF alum there, Amarri Jackson, Ian Randolph & Jarrett Buie.

Other QB's currently on Hamilton's roster:

16 Boltus, Jason QB Import 6.04 225 1986-08-21 Hartwick College

5 Glenn, Kevin QB Import 5.10 203 1979-06-12 Illinois State

12 Porter, Quinton QB Import 6.05 228 1982-12-28 Boston College

17 Tafralis, Adam QB Import 6.01 219 1983-08-30 San Jose State

Seems that Glenn & Porter are both high on passing stats for the league, with Glenn being the higher ranked.

Also, just "learned":

Glavic was one of three CIS quarterbacks to be invited to the Canadian Football League's 2010 Evaluation Camp, even though his draft eligibility year was the year before. Shortly after, Glavic was added to the Hamilton Tiger Cats' negotiation list in anticipation of a rule change where Canadian quarterbacks do not count as a roster spot in training camp.

He played college ball up there, would expect NO competition for Grothe.

STILL holding out hope for an NFL gig.

Just to update Matt ran 4.7 in his 40, and a 4.1 in his short shuttle.  Knee is getting stronger everyday but still has a set back on his starts(due to the leg not being as strong as the other, but it's getting close). Wants to be running back into his old form soon and get into the low 4.6's, high 4.5's.  Threw the ball really well and is looking forward to his proday. He is happy for being a little over 5 months out of surgery and only running for a month and a half.

What was his measurements? If he's 6'0, he could get a FA deal after the draft.
