Could happen today, but not official yet. I'd be happy with that hire. Even though the DBs were horrible this year, I wouldn't place the blame soley on Cooper. Coached under him w/ Bengals, Raiders.

Yeah, but he's got a lot more recent college coaching experience than Bresnahan. Coached some great secondaries at LSU. Even if he's not a noted recruiter. I totally agree, I was just getting ready for the "OH MY GOD THE BUCS DBS ARE THE WORST IN THE NFL" posts. Edited January 10, 2013 by Hem

Of course, one coach will pickup recruiting coordinator duties and another will pickup special teams duties. Here's how our staff rounds out thus far: Offense Offensive Coordinator-Walt Wells Quarterbacks-Nick Sheridan Running Backs- Wide Receivers- Tight Ends- Offensive Line-Walt Wells Two vacancies, as Larry Scott will likely take tight ends or running backs. Defense Defensive Coordinator-Chuck Bresnahan Defensive Line- Linebackers- Secondary- One vacancy, perhaps two if the defensive line or secondary is split up. My guess is Bresnahan will pick up linebackers and Woodie will pickup either defensive ends or the whole defensive line. Most likely, we're looking for a secondary coach and an interior defensive line coach. ---------------------------------------- Stu Holt has been hired on the offensive side (or ST), and Ray Woodie on the defensive side. Exact duties for either have not yet been identified. I think that leaves one more on offense, two for defense. There should be a total of nine. The recruiting coordinator position is an office position that does not go on the field. Actually the recruiting coordinator is another way for a coach to pick up alittle extra jack,, usually the secondary coach or the Wide Receivers position as they have more time on their hands,, It is a coaching staff respnsibility. And they do have assistants tohelp them that are not ont he staff. At lest in D-1 ball.

I think most reasonable people know the Bucs have no players in the secondary (maybe like 2 quality starters when everyone is healthy). His college experience is far more valuable. Although that topic was beat to death the other day in another thread... or maybe it was on one of the 60+ pages in this thread. LOL

Recruiting coordinator can be, and usually is, an on-field assistant coach though. For example, Carl Franks was running backs coach and recruiting coordinator between 2004 and 2007. It's actually preferred that one of the assistant coaches is a recruiting coordinator because only nine assistant coaches can have direct contact with recruits. However, I believe the rules are about to change in terms of coaches' contact with recruits (link: http://highschoolsportsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/01/report-ncaa-board-to-vote-on-legislation-that-could-drastically-alter-college-football-coaches-access-to-recruits.html/).
