That's why I laughed when people said Kayvon didn't have the speed to play corner. His HS times in the 100 and 200 are faster than Mike Jenkins.

As for Kamron, not to make excuses, but he wasn't 100% due to a minor chest injury. His younger brother has a more serious chest injury and is not even competing this year:

He is doing all of this even though he has a minor chest injury. Normally, he works with his brother, but Hunter's absence has forced Kamran to adjust.

"It feels different, because we are not able to push each other as much," said the older Joyer. "He inspires me."

Joyer said weightlifting coach John Castelamare helped him with his clean and jerk technique. Castelamare, also Wesley Chapel's football coach, is impressed with Joyer's schedule.

"Kamran's work ethic is amazing," Castelamare said. "He is one of the best shot putters in the state. He goes to track practice, from track practice, he comes in here the weight room. When he is done, then he goes home and his dad and mom make him go to a different gym.

"Everyone knows that Kamran is one of the best heavyweights in the state. He may be the guy this year."

Both Sampson Genus and Richard Kelly were weightlifting stars in HS and got to play early at USF. Having said that, I'd prefer to redshirt Kamran, if possible, so that he can have more time to play with his brother when he eventually gets here.  ;D

Barrington is the one that amazes me.  I am so glad we took him away from the Zooker.  It is not often that a guy his weight is a good high hurdler and then to double with the discus....USF's track coach is gonna want Sam to be a decathlete.  Just wow.

Lindsey hit the trifecta!  ;D

nYCxacB6SfLindsey2.jpg

Pictured above, Hillsborough's Lindsey Lamar wins the boys 100 in 10.69 into a headwind. USF football coach Jim Leavitt must be proud -- and anxious to get him

Lindsey Lamar of Hillsborough takes the 100 for the second straight year! He runs 10.69 into a -2.7 headwind to beat Northeast senior Jaruez Wynn of St. Pete Northeast (10.83), Michael Bellamy, a Charlotte sophomore who rushed for 2,000 yards last season, went 10.90 for third and fourth went to Frank Minto of Lakewood, who ran 10.97. He edged Armwood Khiry McQuay by just .006 for the fourth and final state qualifying berth!

Back to the boys 400 real quick -- it was Lamar in 48.85 -- a new PR -- for first, then Markais Neal of Armwood in 49.61, followed by Chris Watson of Wharton (49.73) and Joey DuPont of Jefferson (49.99). A great finish -- all sub-50.

Hillsborough senior Lindsey Lamar has just completed an impressive triple by winning the 200 in 21.85. Again, he was in a tough lane, 7, and held off the field. Michael Bellamy of Charlotte was second in 21.97, Khiry McQuay of Armwood takes third in 21.98 and fourth goes to Jaruez Wynn of Northeast in 21.99. To get those those three wins,  Lamar had to run  six races including prelims. A solid, solid performance.

Also, USF 2010 verbal Brion Carnes came in 3rd in the discus (134-5) and that qualifies him for the state finals.

There were 31 HS schools represented at this regional.

I really hope we can land Terrence "T-Rex" Mitchell , Lindsey Lamar's cousin, who just dominated the jumping events. Everybody is recruiting him to play football.

3A-3 track: Terriers boys dominate on way to third straight title

By Bob Putnam, Times Staff Writer

In Print: Friday, May 1, 2009

PUNTA GORDA — Terrence Mitchell handled the field events, Lindsey Lamar handled the sprints and Hillsborough handled the boys field at the Class 3A, Region 3 meet.

The Terriers, thanks to a few individual standout performances, beat host Punta Gorda Charlotte 96-71.5 Thursday to win their third straight region title.

"We've been crunching numbers for a while and knew we had a chance," Hillsborough coach Joey Sipp said. "We had some guys come through with big wins."

Mitchell won the long jump (24 feet, 2½ inches) and triple jump (47-8¾). He also took second in the 300 hurdles. Lamar, a USF recruit, defended his region titles in the 100 and 200. He beat Northeast's Juarez Wynn in the 100 with a time of 10.69. In the 200, Lamar won in 21.85, beating Charlotte's Mike Bellamy by .012 seconds. Lamar also added a title in the 400.

Ron Washington was the Terriers' other champion in the high jump (6-4).

"Lindsey was big time, but so were Terrence and Ron," Sipp said. "Those titles gave us a lot of points."

wow, mama bull thanks for tracking all this down.  Really great stuff.

You get to see how much of a freakish athlete Kayvon Webster truly is and why Leavitt made a fuss about him.  We're talking about a kid that is 6ft, with very legit 4.4 speed, he's stout, and has great agility.

BTW, Kamran Joyer can max bench up to 450lbs, his competition bench of 440lbs is pretty amazing when you consider the technique needed to compete. Do you realize at that weight Kamran would have ranked in the top 5 bench pressed on our team last year, and probably will rank there when he arrives this fall.  Having powerful, brutish mauler type guards coming in like Joyer and Jacques will really show up in about a year or two.  The guys ahead of them will really need to push because those two guys have very good athleticism, size, power...and are freakishly strong.  Kamran dropped weight, he's ready to go coming in just over 300lbs.

Kamran is now down to 295 pounds.

This is a good article on him mentioning that.

Those are outstanding times for Hopkins, Webster, & Lamar.  I'm very anxious to see if they have another level for the state finals.

Pace setters: Future Bulls in state track finals

Bulls fans seeking a real sense of just how fast this year's recruiting class is can find out at today's Class 2A state high school track championships in Winter Park, where three Bulls signees have a busy day.

The Miami Monsignor Pace trio of Kayvon Webster, Sterling Griffin and Derrick Hopkins will be representing USF in the meet in several events. Webster and Hopkins are going head-to-head in the 100 and 200 meters, both semifinalists in both events. In the 100, they've posted the second- and third-fastest times in seeding, with Hopkins at 10.65 and Webster at 10.69, trailing only Dunnellon's Angelo Cabrera at 10.61. Webster has the top qualifying time in the 200 at 21.62.

Webster and Griffin will run together on Pace's entry in the 4x100 final, where they're trying to repeat as state champions and have the fastest time going in. Griffin will also run on Pace's 4x400 relay, as well as the individual 400 meters, where he has the second-fastest qualifying time.

There will be more Bulls in next weekend's track championships for larger schools, and check back later today to see how the Pace runners fared.
