Canales to Illinois

I heard Mike Canales was hired at Illinois to run the offense. What did he do here anyway? Ive heard him called the recievers coach and the passing game coordinator/co-offensive coordinator. Guess we need to pick up another hybrid type to replace all the holes.

Zook looking for new OC

With Mike Locksley off to coach New Mexico, there is a good chance Illinois coach Ron Zook will make a run at hiring USF pass game coordinator/receivers coach Mike Canales to run the offense.

Others who apparently are on the radar are former Syracuse offensive coordinator Mitch Browning and former Miami University coach Shane Montgomery. Zook also could promote quarterbacks coach Kurt Beathard into the OC post.

Locksley isn't expected to take any full-time Illini assistants to Albuquerque with him.

99.9% chance that he leaves IF he is offered.  More money, more exposure.  Sounds like what Canales would do and can't say i'd blame him.

If he goes that's a problem.  He's a good recruiter and Illinois is very aggressive in Florida already.

I actually think Canales is an under rated coach and needs to be given more leeway with the offense. Gregory can't call plays well.
